I Moved to Portland!

Man! The past month has been crazy! As some of you may know, at the beginning of June I left my job at Learning House to go full-time with a group I had been volunteering with for a while. That group is Love City (Inc. … technically speaking). I’ve also spent two weeks on the road with Awaken Worship, moved, and celebrated a birthday. Many of you have reached out to me to see how things have been and often times it’s hard to meet-up to catchup on everything. So I’ve decided to finally launch my blog so that you’ll be able to keep up with all the happenings of what I’m doing in Portland (and elsewhere). There’s a lot to cover in this first post so buckle your seatbelt. Let’s get to it!

Leaving Learning House was bittersweet. I loved my role there. The people are amazing and incredibly talented. The company is heading in an awesome direction under a great leader. But the more I volunteered, the more I fell in love with Love City and their mission. On June 6, I started with Love City as Creative Director. Love City is a non-profit organization in the Portland neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky with a mission of transforming the community through living out the simplest form of the Gospel – loving people. We desire to create hope in people by creating economic stimulation, developing life skills, engaging in sports and recreation, and offering educational programs.

My focus will be two-fold:

  1. Creating and managing content that builds and promotes the brand. Some sample projects for this include producing videos that tell who we are as an organization, building out a website that allows for our neighbors to see the programs we are offering, and designing print work that we can use to tell our story and raise support.
  2. Developing and leading programs that equip our neighbors with coding, creative, or business skills.

Over the past month, I’ve spent most of my time on the latter. Love City has launched 4 programs (social development circus classes, yoga, Spanish classes, and an all-girls photography class) and I’ve worked on helping with promotional material for that. However most of my time has been spent on developing a campaign that we launch next week. This has included a website, e-mail campaign, print material, and video. I’m excited for it to launch and to see how it does. I’ve learned much through the process and have had opportunities to connect with many neighbors and professionals to bring it to life. Shawn and Inga, Love City’s founders, have been incredible mentors throughout building this campaign and it’s been the perfect way to get my feet wet. I’ll post a link to the campaign on this blog when we launch. I also hope to write some “How It’s Made” posts on different campaign materials so check back in a week for those.

Another item that I’ve spent time working on is my personal fundraising campaign. Part of our role as team members at Love City and “inner city” missionaries is to fundraise our own salary. We as an organization exist to love on our neighbors. That’s why 100% of donations go back to supporting current programs and creating new programs to better equip, engage, and love our community. If you believe my mission and the mission of Love City as a whole, I ask you to stand with me as we love this neighborhood. I’ll be using this blog to post updates of what I’m doing at Love City so you can stay current and see the impact that you are having on this community through your support. Please consider partnering in this mission and making a monthly donation. Your investment of $30, $50, $100, $200 or more a month will play a vital part in bringing the love of Jesus to our neighbors in Portland! You can donate through check or online via the button below. Please make checks out to Love City Inc. and be sure to indicate Austin Lopesilvero on the memo line. Checks can be mailed to 2615 Alford Ave. Louisville, KY 40212.

Thank you for your prayers and support of this mission!
